Youth Affairs Minister Broomes shares a light moment with kitchen staff of the Felix Austin Police College

Minister of Youth Affairs within the Ministry of the Presidency Simona Broomes on Saturday took the Streets of Albouystown in a familiarization effort on issues which are affecting the young people in the community. She also visited the Felix Austin Police College and Buxton Community ground where the police had activities.

Accompanied by her staff, the minister met with residents in their homes and on the street where they were allowed to share concerns with her, many of which had to do with development for the community as well as matters of crime and security.

Concerns were raised about abandoned houses in the community, deplorable public infrastructure and the posture in the community.

Security and infrastructure issues were in focus with this group on Saturday in Albouystown

They however did indicate to the minister that they have seen a decrease in the frequency at which the police would seek to raid the community and commended the police for that improvement which they believe is owing to better intelligence intelligence.

They however made mention that there is still a lot more work to  be done as some young men in the community continue to be targets for the police for one reason or the other.

After the minister was finish with Albouystown, she made her way over to the Guyana Police Force’s Felix Austin Police College where she interacted with young recruits and other senior officers of the college.

Broomes promised to revisit the college in a more formal setting where she intends to have a more interpersonal form of interaction with the recruits and a look at the facilities under which they are being accommodated and train.
