Guyanese Attorney At Law Dexter Todd engages the media after his admittance

Guyanese Attorney at Law and former police officer Dexter Todd was on Tuesday called to Belize Bar by Chief Justice of that country Kenneth Benjamin who is also a native of Guyana.

Todd’s admittance comes days after he was hired by Danny Mason to lead his defense in an ongoing murder case where Mason and four co-accused are charged with beheading a pastor, Llewelyn Lucas back in 2016

The lawyers who previously represented the accused withdrew from the case back in April leaving Mason who is also said to be an extortionist and kidnapper, without legal representation. Todd has since vowed to seek counsel from the former defense attorneys of the accused on work done so far in the matter as according to him, anything outside of what could be deemed suicidal for the case going forward.

Information reaching BIG Smith Crime Watch from Belize stated that Todd’s petition for the admission was read by former AG of that country, Senior Counsel Everton.

The Guyanese lawyer among other things was told that there are several similarities with the practice of law in Belize and Guyana and was encouraged to become familiar them.

In an interview with the press there, Todd was asked if he plans to move to that country to practice law fully but he reportedly responded in the negative citing his many clients back home who are still expecting him to ensure that they receive justice in their respective court proceedings, both criminal and constitutional.

Todd, a former Cadet Officer and Personal Assistant to late Guyanese Commissioner of Police Henry Greene told the Belize press when asked about his previous engagement with cases outside of Guyana,  that he has done narcotics matters in Barbados and is presently dealing with an extradition matter in another country.

He assured the Belize press that he comes to their local Bar with a wealth of knowledge having served as a policeman, prosecutor and now a defense lawyer all of which have contributing to the success in cases he has been handling.

It was Todd who led the defense of Former Guyanese Minister Dr. Jennifer Westford and her Personnel Officer Margret Cummings who were jointly charged with misappropriating millions of state funds which were entrusted to them for a number of programs.

Belize Chief Justice Benjamin told Todd that he came highly recommended and it provided him, Benjamin; with no hesitation to have him admitted to the local bar as he wished him well in his practice. He further stated that the country is in need of young vibrant and knowledgeable lawyers like him; Todd, who have a passion for the profession and respect for its guiding principles.
