President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali on Monday morning announced to the nation via his Facebook Social Media page that Guyanese businessman Dr. Yesu Persaud has died, he was 93 years old.

“Guyana has lost an outstanding soul in Dr. Yesu Persaud, a true son of the soil. It is with great sadness I learnt, moments ago, about his passing. To his family, friends, management and staff of DDL and Demerara Bank, and the wider Private sector , I join with you in prayers at this time. May his soul find eternal peace” President Ali noted on his official Facebook page.

The passing of Dr. Yesu Persaud comes on the heels of ill-health which he was reportedly dealing with for time now and according to information reaching this publication, he passed away at his home, early Monday morning.

Dr. Persaud was widely regarded as one of the leading figures in the local private sector and has been recognized throughout the years for his sterling contribution to Guyana and its many sectors.

Demerara Bank, Demerara Distillers Limited and the Institute for Private Enterprise Development are just some of the entities that Dr. Persaud headed in his years as an active private sector member and businessman.

the latest significant contribution to Guyana by Dr. Yesu Persaud was the opening of the Dr. Yesu Persaud Clinical Education Centre back in October 2020.
