A 22-year-old labourer was on Thursday crushed to death by a metal lift at the F & R Supermarket at Lot 29 Stelling Road, Vreed-En-Hoop, West Coast Demerara (WCD). The incident occurred at about 16:20h.

Police in a statement said Sudesh Charran of West Minister, West Bank Demerara (WBD) was walking under the lift to go into the supermarket when it fell from the upper flat and pinned him to the ground.

Workers rushed to his assistance and used a piece of wood and jack and raise the metal lift. They then managed to pull Charran from under the lift but by this time he was motionless. Police said a large wound was seen to the top of his head.

The Police were summoned, and the labourer was escorted to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor on duty.

The body was then escorted to the Ezekiel Parlour awaiting a Post Mortem Examination with dissection.

Investigation in progress.
