Bandit shows up to robbery with ‘one bullet’; shot dead by security guard

On Tuesday morning at approximately 04:00hrs a suspected bandit who showed up with one bullet in his 9mm pistol to carry out a robbery in Queenstown was killed after he was shot four times by a security guard attracted to Ingrid and Chase Mining. The dead bandit is so far unidentified and might have showed up to carry out the act all by himself.
His victim had just returned fro the airport and was attempting to head into this room at the El Sol Hostel located at Crown Street Queenstown when he, the bandit decide to pounce on him, relieving him of a quantity of local and foreign currency.
However what the bandit was not aware of, was that a security guard who was already preparing for the arrival of the hotel guest was monitoring his movements after the car pulled up with the guest and he walked in behind the man.
The security guard had already taken up a tactical position but could do very little as the robbery was in progress and he he made any moves, he would have alerted the the bandit to his presence. he then took a conscious decision to allow the man to carry out his robbery on the victim.
When he was done and was walking out of the compound, the security guard emerged from the building and ordered the bandit to ‘freeze’. The bandit reportedly turned around and attempted to point his gun at the security guard who instinctively shot him to the foot, the suspect fell to the ground but attempted to raise his gun once more at the security guard who again fire at him hitting him to the shoulder.
Still not satisfied, according to our sources, the suspect tried for a third time to again point his weapon and the security guard and was again shot, before being shot a fourth time as he continued his bid to shoot at the security guard. It was the fourth bullet which was regarded as the fatal shot.
There was no report of a getaway car of an accomplice anywhere close by after the incident shooting according to our sources on the ground.
After that, the security guard reportedly telephoned the police who were told had already mobilized to come the area after the heard the loud explosions which came from the shot gun being used by the security guard at the time. It is reported that the bandit did not have an opportunity to use his weapon.
In a statement from the police on the matter it was noted that the bandit up to press time was not identified. The police noted that the items which were taken from the 33 year old victim were recovered as well as a weapon and a live round. The investigations are ongoing
