Unvaccinated staff of the Guyana National Newspapers Limited (GNNL) were on Friday locked out of their offices following the implementation of the Government’s vaccination policy.

GNNL is the printer of the state newspaper, Guyana Chronicle.

In a memo to all Managers and staff on Thursday, the company’s General Manager Moshamie Ramotar informed staff that from Friday (August 27, 2021), “only members of staff and visitors who have received at least the first dose of a COVID-19 VACCINA TION or can produce a NEGATIVE P.C.R TEST CERTIFICATE which was obtained within the last seventy-two hours, will be allowed to enter the Company’s Premises.”

As a result, it stated that employees who are not inoculated and who wish to produce a negative P.CR Test Certificate, must do so fortnightly.

The company said the memo is in keeping with a letter received from the Office of the Prime Minister, which has oversight for GNNL, and the latest COVID-19 protocols issued by the Ministry of Health through the Offcal Gazette dated 29th July, 2021, with regard to entering Government Ministries and Agencies.

The letter from the Prime Minister’s office to the GNNL states that systems must be put in place “with immediate effect.” It added that staff with pre-existing medical conditions must bear a letter from their doctor authenticating same.
