A man who was sentenced to five years imprisonment back in 2017 for stealing a gold chain was on Wednesday remanded to prison on two armed robbery charges.

35-year-old Orin Favourite called ‘Solo’ of 30 Rosemary Lane, South Ruimveldt, Georgetown, appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.

The first charge stated that on July 30, 2021, at Hadfield Street, Werk-en-rust Georgetown, while being armed with a gun, he robbed Mishal Juman of one iPhone 11 valued at $200,000- property of Mishal Juman.

It was further alleged that on the same day and at the same location while being armed with a gun, he robbed Chandroutue Juman of a phone valued at $98,000, one handbag valued at $25,000, $405,250 cash- property of Chandroutue Juman.

Favorite denied both charges after they were read to him by the Magistrate.

Facts presented by the court prosecutor stated that on the day in question, the virtual complainants were about to enter motor car PZZ 3450 which was parked on the southern side of the road when they were confronted by Favourite who was armed with a gun, and another male.

Favourite went up to the couple and relieved them of the articles mentioned in the charges. The court heard that in the process of robbing the couple, Favourite discharged a round in their direction. No one was injured. A Police report was made.

When Favourite was arrested, the Prosecutor said he told detectives, “I want to see the people saying I rob them. I was present in the area when I saw some police officers come and pick up a bag from a garbage bin not too far from where I was standing.”

On August 3, 2021, while Favourite was seated in the Police lock-ups, he was positively identified by the Jumans as the person who robbed them. The accused robber returns to court later this month.

On May 22, 2017, City Magistrate Dylon Bess sentenced Favourite to five years behind bars for stealing a gold chain. He was found guilty of the charge which stated that on July 28, 2016, at Leopold Street, Georgetown, he stole a gold chain worth $135,000 from Charlie Hytmiah.
