Paper committal for Kaieteur News security guards charged with murder of vagrant

Senior Magistrate Leron Daly has fixed July 26 for the commencement of paper committal procedures into the joint murder charge against two Kaieteur News security guards. Together, 39-year-old Tony Waldron and 49-year-old Yan Licorish are accused of murdering 58-year-old Mohabir Singh.

The two murder accused have not been required to plead to the indictable charge. They are being represented by attorney-at-law Latchmie Rahamat.

According to reports, Mohabir, a vagrant, was found with marks of violence lying in the tray of a Canter truck which is operated by Kaieteur News. The truck was parked in the Kaieteur News bond. His body was discovered by a driver who had parked the vehicle in the bond the previous night.

The police found what appeared to be a wound to the back of the man’s head and a small cut to his wrist. There were also bloodstains inside the tray of the truck where his body was found.  The police ranks were able to extract the video footage from the newspaper’s CCTV cameras as well as from a government set up which is located a stone’s throw away from the Kaieteur News.

Following an investigation, they arrested the two security guards who were on duty on the night of the man’s killing, March 16, 2021. A post mortem examination revealed that Singh died from brain hemorrhage due to blunt trauma to the head.
