Emily Emon has been fined $15, 000 for threatening her classmate’s wife.

She was found guilty of the crime by City Magistrate Annette Singh at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.

At her initial court appearance, Emon had pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that on December 6th, 2019 at Georgetown, she made use of threatening language towards Charmaine De Mendonca.

At the conclusion of the trial, the Magistrate ruled that prima facie evidence was lead against Emon by the prosecution.

As such, she was convicted of the offence. Failure to pay the fine will see Emon serving three weeks’ imprisonment.

On the day in question, De Mendonca, 44, went to her husband’s workplace at GDF Camp Ayangana base where she met with Emon and  accused her of having an affair with her husband.

Emon and the man are classmates at the University of Guyana. De Mendonca and Emon ended up in an altercation. Emon used threatening language towards De Mendonca.

De Mendonca allegedly punched, kicked, and threw Emon to the ground. As a result of the attack, Emon had to seek medical attention.

The matter was then reported to the station and following an investigation, both women were charged and placed before the courts.

The case in which De Mendonca was charged for unlawfully and maliciously wounding Emon is still ongoing before a City Magistrate.

The charge against De Mendonca alleges that on on December 6th, 2019 at Irving Street in the vicinity of Camp Ayanganna, Georgetown, De Mendonca, she unlawfully and maliciously wounded Emon

De Mendonca pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted bail in the sum of $25,000 pending the hearing and determination of her trial.
