Peter Headley’s family plans to pursue legal action if the police does not take action against the ranks implicated in his shooting death.

Headley was shot while in police custody on Saturday 15th May as he was being transported in a civilian vehicle to the Providence Police Station.

On Monday, as his family mounted another picketing exercise, this time outside of the office of the Commissioner of Police, they maintained that he was murdered by the officers.

“I am going the legal way, I am looking at all the legal possibilities, because I have to get justice for him,” Patricia Campbell told this publication.
Headley’s wife is calling on the Commissioner of Police Nigel Hoppie to ensure the officers are charged.
“Up to now the police have not been charged, we don’t know their names, we have not seen their faces and we are not hearing anything from the law enforcement people,” Campbell said.
The woman said that the family is yet to be contacted by the police as she pointed out that the police never informed the family of his death. She learnt of Headley’s death on social media.
Headley was initially labelled a bandit and the fact that he was deported was used by the police to insinuate that he was killed for wrong doing, this Campbell denounced as she called on the Police to set the record straight, “they have to issue a statement,” the woman said.
“Their first statement that they put out said they they searched the vehicle thoroughly, they broke all the protocols, why did they go into his vehicle,” the man said.
The Police said that the matter is before the Office of Professional Reasonability.
Last week, following a similar picketing action outside of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Minister Robeson Benn met with the family.
It was during that meeting, that the Minister called Police Commissioner Hoppie who assured the family that the incident was being investigated, a statement from that ministry said.
“I need justice for him, they left him to die, they murdered him and left him there to die,” an emotional Campbell said as she was flanked by relatives and friends.
