30 Mocha women graduate from GLI course in Social Work

The Guyana Learning Institute today held a graduation Ceremony, where 30 women of the Mocha community successfully completed a four months course in Social Work.
Given the socio-economical variables of the beneficiaries, some being single parents, stay at home wives and youths in Mocha, the beneficiaries expressed their wishes to involve a prominent female at the Graduation to provide motivational remarks to enhance their personal and professional self in matters related to empowerment of women, areas that women should apply themselves to meaningfully contribute to Society.
Young Mariah Lyttle emerged as best graduating student and Valedictorian her batch.

Participants were focused on various aspects and modules including, Social work practice in Guyana, Codes & ethics for social worker, Human development & Gender socialization, Cause and effects of Social problems on self, family and Society, Social work in communities, Group dynamics, Self-expression, technical writing and styles of communication, Concepts & principles of Social work: Johari window, self-esteem, assertiveness, the looking glass theory.
Community representative Rolston Elliot expressed his gratitude to the Institution for facilitating the women in their journey to empowerment.
He urged the new graduates to remain humble and approachable as they put their newfound talents into action, noting that no achievement or person is insignificant as everyone has a role to play to make a difference.
Also in attendance were Guyana Learning Institute Board members, Ministry of Labour officials, British High Commissioner Jane Miller and community members.
The Guyana Learning Institute is accredited by the Ministry of Labour, Board of Industrial Training.
