Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs, Anil Nandlall, has announced that the Government is ready to start the process of issuing titles for a number of areas in the Annโ€™s Grove/Clonbrook, East Coast Demerara housing scheme, after decades of trying to fix this issue.

The announcement was made during a follow-up visit, which was held at the Annโ€™s Grove Secondary School, over the weekend.

Minister of Housing and Water Collin Croal, Labour Minister Joseph Hamilton and Commissioner of the Guyana Lands and Surveys Commission, Mr. Enrique Monize were also in attendance.

The areas under question, include; Annโ€™s Grove (Sertimer Scheme) and Doch Cab Housing Scheme. At the Doch Cab area, some 187 lots are expected to be regularised and those persons are expected to be issued with Certificate of Titles.

As a means of fast-tracking the process, Minister Croal said staff of the Community Development Department of the Central Housing and Planning Authority will commence the Occupational Survey, on Wednesday. Speaking on the fees attached to facilitate the process, the Minister added that this will be subsidized.

The Attorney General in his address, noted that land ownership is a form of empowerment for people and this engagement speaks to the high level of importance that the Government places such land matters.

โ€œGiven that we decided to return to address the issues of land ownership, this in itself demonstrates how important it is for you as a people, as well as it is important to the governmentโ€ฆland ownership is empowerment, this engagement is intended to bring real empowerment to the people of Clonbrook and Annโ€™s Grove .โ€

Also, Minister Hamilton whose Ministry has oversight for Co-op Societies across the country, said his Ministry is ready to work and play its part in resolving the issues of land ownership, given that some of the lands under questions are owned and managed by Co-op.

This meeting was a follow-up commitment made by Prime Minister, Brigadier (Ret’d) Mark Phillips, during a cabinet outreach at Annโ€™s Grove recently.
