Anisa Miguel died from drowning.

That’s the findings from a postmortem conducted on Wednesday, June 29, 2022, by Government Pathologist Dr. Nehaul Singh at the Memorial Gardens Mortuary.

Police also said that the Pathologist found “no injury marks of violence were found on the body of the 19-year-old.”

There had been suspicions of foul play after a detective observed a red mark beneath the throat when Anisa’s remains were found.

One suggestion is that she fell overboard when going to relieve herself outside a bar at Martin’s Landing, Mazaruni, that she and two coworkers had visited. The entertainment spot is close to the river.

Police have since released the female bar owner and the two co-workers who were taken into custody.

Anisa, who has a four-year-old son, vanished on June 17.  She and two salesgirls had allegedly travelled by boat to Martin’s Landing to sell perfumes and other items for their employer, who has a boutique at Tamakay Landing, Mazaruni.

It is alleged that they visited an entertainment spot and consumed alcoholic beverages.

It is alleged that they were all intoxicated. According to one report, the friends last saw Anisa dancing with a young man at the entertainment spot. Another report indicated that she was last seen going outside to urinate.

Anisa’s body was recovered on Sunday, June 26, near Baboon Island, Mid-Mazaruni. This area is said to be about four miles from Martin’s Landing.

The victim was still clad in the white top and blue pants she was last seen wearing.
