Scheme with 800 house lots for Lethem

The Central Housing and Planning Authority has moved into Lethem to commence surveying more than 130 acres of land which it hopes to develop into a housing scheme that would produce eight hundred house lots.
The move comes even as the agency is struggling to identify lands for housing purposes along the coast but is working with the NICIL, GuySuco and Guyana Lands and Surveys Commission to make lands available in order to erase the housing backlog.
Over the weekend, subject Minister Colin Croal and a team from the Ministry and Central Housing and Planning Authority commenced the block and topographic survey for the lands which are located at Poke Bridge, Lethem Region 9.
Live activity in the area should commence this Thursday by the CH&PA team in the region according to the briefing provided to the minister.
The designs and layout of the scheme are expected to consolidate and kick start the process with the Guyana Lands and Surveys Commission the Ministry in a statement noted on Monday.
“2021 will be an exciting year for the housing sector, we are looking to start allocation in 2021 and when we make an allocation, citizens can look forward to being allocated lot in schemes with all the necessary infrastructure,” Croal stated.
Croal said the development in Region 9 will translate into building village economies and create employment.
“The housing and construction sector can further strengthen village economies, the opening of new housing development would mean people will be given house lots and can start construction,” According to the housing Minister.
Vbrant hinterland housing projects is something that is top on Government’s agenda, stated Croal as he stressed that vulnerable residents of the region will be adequately housed.
Also in Region 9 over the weekend, a drilling well was commissioned even as commitments of improving the water quality in the region was made to the residents by the ministry’s visiting team.
