Prisoner escapes from Mazaruni prison

ESCAPEE: Christopher Punch

A prisoner has escaped from the Mazaruni Prison while tending to the prison’s livestock on Saturday.

In a statement from the Guyana Police Force, at approximately 14:00hrs 29 Christopher Punch who hails from El Dorado Village West Coast Berbice, was in the prison compound with other prisoners when he requested to be relieved to urinate.

The young man who has been serving a nine-year sentence for simple larceny and attempt larceny was allowed to go into the bushes to ease his bladder.

Later in the day at approximately 16:00hrs when the supervising prisoner was about to gather the prisoners up to return to their respective holding areas, it was discovered that the Punch was missing. An alarm was raised and the police informed.

Police in their statement described the fugitive as dark brown in complexion, slim, tall with a tattoo of clasp hands and scripture from the bible on his left arm; chest hair and scars on his upper back.

The investigations into this matter are ongoing.
