Patterson/Adams get 200,000 bail each for allegedly defrauding state of 160 million

General Secretary of the Alliance for Change (AFC) and former Minister of Public Infrastructure, David Patterson along with General Manager of the Demerara Harbour Bridge Corporation (DHBC), Rawlston Adams were released on $200, 000 bail each this morning.

Together, they are accused of conspiring with each other and persons unknown to defraud the DHBC of over $163, 000, 000.

Patterson and Adams appeared before Magistrate Leron Daly at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.

The men were not required to plead to the indictable charge which stated that between November 18, 2016, and February 1, 2018, at Georgetown, they conspired together with each other and with other persons unknown to defraud the Demerara Harbour Bridge Corporation of $162,635,015.

The were from the Demerara Harbour Bridge Corporation Asphalt Plant and represented a project about a feasibility study and design for a new bridge which was not a function of the said Demerara Harbour Bridge Corporation.

It was also noted that the said money from the said Demerara Harbour Bridge Corporation Asphalt Plant account could not be used.

They will make their next court appearance on February 15, 2021, for commencement of trial.

Earlier this morning Chief Magistrate Ann McLennon recused herself from hearing the case as she claimed both parties are known to her.
