Labourer found not guilty of engaging in sexual activity with schoolboy.

A 42-year-old Dane Thomas was on Tuesday found not guilty by a jury of engaging in sexual activity with a schoolboy.
He had been on trial for two counts of sexual activity with a child before Justice Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Sexual Offences Court in Georgetown.
Thomas, a labourer of China Town, Kamuni Creek, Demerara River, was discharged after the jury returned unanimous not guilty verdicts, following deliberations which lasted for a little over two hours.
Particulars of the two charges he had faced had alleged that he engaged in sexual penetration with the child in December 2018, when the boy was eight, and then again in December 2020, when the child turned nine.
Thomas had made his first court appearance in January 2021, before Magistrate Zamilla Ali-Seepaul at Leonora Magistrateβs Court.Β
He was refused bail and remanded to prison.
