PPP executive member Juan Edghill

Former junior Minister of Finance, man of the cloth and executive of the Peoples Progressive Party Civic, Bishop Juan Edghill today announced that he is no longer interested in running for the post of Prime Ministerial Candidate ahead the March 02, 2020 elections.

Edghill letter to general Secretary of the PPP Bharrat Jagdeo comes two days before that party officially launch its political campaign.

“My position of interest was publicly articulated that I am interested- willing and able to serve in that capacity. Notwithstanding, the popular views expressed by persons known and unknown to me, and the embrace by our activists and comrades throughout the country and in the diaspora, subsequent to the commencement of this process, I engaged in deeper personal reflection and prayerful consideration, I wish to state the following” Edghill’s letter to Jagdeo noted.

My preference is for a consensus candidate to emerge from this process, the bigger picture of an electoral victory for the PPP trumps personal ambition and desires, after a relentless and difficult struggle against the Granger-led regime, ensuring there are no encumbrances to victory and the preservation of unit among our supports is paramount, he further added.

The one time junior Finance Minister who has over the last few months been out and about rally votes for the PPP asked the general Secretary to convey his regards to the Presidential Candidate Irfaan Ali and other comrades of the Peoples Progressive Party.

It is widely believes that Former Chief of Staff of the Guyana Defense Force, Mark Phillips will emerge as the final choice as the running mate to Irfaan Ali in the upcoming election.
