Police have found the body of a man suspected to be one of the bandits behind last Saturday’s deadly home invasion at Block 22, Wismar, Linden.
The body, with chops and lacerations, was found in the bathroom of a house, about half a mile away from the scene of the robbery.
He is yet to be identified.
It is believed that his accomplices took him there after they had shot and killed 87-year-old Johnson Bowen known as ‘Uncle Johno’ and his 58-year-old son- in- law, Manuel De Santos.
De Santos is a dredge owner and had had recently returned from the interior.
They gang also shot 20-year-old Denzil Roberts in the face after he came to the assistance of his relatives.
His condition is listed as critical.
Big Smith News Watch was told that a team from the Major Crimes Unit has joined the investigation and is assisting in questioning two suspects, including one wounded man who was found with a handgun.
It is alleged that De Santos’ wife awoke at around 04.00 hrs on Saturday after hearing strange noises in the living room.
She then saw three men in the house. Two were armed with guns and they were dragging her elderly father, who was hearing impaired.
Her nephew, Denzil Roberts, who lives nearby, also heard the commotion and went to the family’s aid.
He reportedly barged through the front door and began to struggle with one of the robbers.
Bowen and De Santos then armed themselves with a stick and cutlass and began to beat and chop the intruders.
This threw the gang into a state of panic, and they opened fire.
De Santos and Denzil Roberts were reportedly shot in the house, while Bowen was killed when he pursued the gunmen as they were exiting the back door.
Residents assisted in taking the injured Roberts to hospital.
Police then followed a blood trail that led them to of the suspects. Another wounded man was reportedly found in a house.
Police then found the body of the third, badly chopped man in another house.
