Double murder rocks Berbice

Body of 65-Y-O found on roadway; hit and run suspected

The police on Berbice Region 6 are investigating a double murder resulting the death of Mahendra Ramotar and another individual whose name was only given as Surendra, both of the Corentyne Coast.

Police sources named a 49 year old farmer as the suspect in the murders of the two men and state that it might ha e occurred sometime between 21:30 and 22:30 hours on Sunday evening at No.43 Public Road.

One Melissa Rampersaud, a housewife; related to detectives that the suspect was at the yard of another resident when another man and his wife were having a heated argument.

The suspect became annoyed and armed himself with a knife, approached his victimes who were standing on the road and inflicted several stab wounds about their bodies which were fatal.

Mahendra Ramator C/D Sunny was escorted to the Skeldon hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor on duty whilst Suendra was escorted to the Port Mourant Hospital where he was also pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor on duty.

Sukamattie Richmond and Anthony Persaud were also injured during the incident and were taken for medical attention where their conditions were listed as serious.

The suspect was arrested and is presently in custody assisting with the investigation; a knife , suspected to be the murder weapon was recovered at the scene and placed in an evidence bag.
