Woman takes her life after checking into short-time hotel

The police in Essequibo are investigating the circumstances which lead to the death of 32-year-old Ramona Innis of 42 Goed Fortuin Housing Scheme, West Bank Demerara.

Innis dropped dead in the man’s bed at the house he is renting in Essequibo. The father of four who hails from Dowding Street Kitty Georgetown told police detectives he and the woman were friends for about ten years and have been sharing an intimate relationship unknowing to his wife.

According to information reaching BIG Smith News, the man told police detectives that he has been renting an apartment at Somerset, Essequibo Coast which allows him to have quick access to a fishing boat he is building at Charity Wharf.

He related that last week Thursday Innis came to the apartment to clean up and on Saturday he left twenty thousand dollars with her which she asked for in order to purchase alcohol while he left to transact business in Georgetown.

Upon his return to Essequibo on Tuesday just after 18:00hrs, he went to the apartment where he met the woman who appeared to be under the influence while drinking a beverage.

The married man told police detectives that the woman indicated to him that she and the neighbor, a 48-year-old female were imbibing for the past three days.

This publication was told that the man joined the drinking spree and by consuming six beers before encouraging the Innis to stop drinking and they then went into the room where Innis reportedly forced him to have intercourse.

The man said he refused as he was not feeling well and communicated this to the woman who nevertheless was persistent with her ‘sex’ request.

It was at that point that the woman reportedly told the man that she was going to the fridge for two more beers and but was so drunk that she fell back on the bed and he began to implore her to get up and go and take a shower but she did not respond.

We were told that the man informed detectives that he went to get the woman some water and she raised up to drink it but immediately coughed it up. It was at that point that he noticed that she was also bringing up blood and her eyes were rolling up.

He immediately went to call the neighbor who she was drinking with and they called the police who arrived and found her motionless on the bed.

The woman was then taken to the hospital where doctors pronounced her dead on arrival. The police took the married man and the other woman into custody as they await a post-mortem on the remains to determine the official cause of death.
