Man pleads guilty to manslaughter over death of tractor operator

A man who was initially indicted for the capital offence of murder over the death of a tractor operator has opted to plead guilty to the lesser offence of manslaughter.
Represented by Attorney-at-Law Teriq Mohammed, Solomon George called ‘Georgie,’ 43, formerly of Lot 109 Murphy Street, Good Intent, West Bank Demerara (WBD), was brought before Justice Sandil Kissoon at the Demerara High Court earlier this week.
He admitted to unlawfully killing 28-year-old Rampersaud Rattan on August 8, 2016. The convicted killer will be sentenced on July 17. State Counsel Cicelia Corbin is the prosecutor.
Rattan, called “Arnold” and “Rampo,” a tractor operator, of Lot 299 Long Pond, Sisters Village, WBD, was stabbed once in the chest during an argument with George.
He died while receiving treatment at the West Demerara Regional Hospital. He died as a result of a puncture to a vital organ, the heart.
The fatal altercation occurred at around 11.30 pm on the day in question.
