Two feared dead in Region 7 boat mishap

FEARED DEAD:  Germaine LaRose and Terrance Thomas 

A boat mishap that took place around 04:30hrs on Thursday morning has reportedly claimed the lives of two private rangers.

BIG Smith News Watch has been informed that the boat which departed the Imbaimadai Landing with four persons onboard began taking in water and capsized in the vicinity of Stempie Mouth, located some fifteen minutes from the Imbaimadai Landing. As a result, the two rangers, the captain, and one other person were all flung into the water

The captain and the other person managed to swim to shore while the two rangers went down, Region 7 Police Commander, Senior Superintendent Dion Moore told BIG Smith News Watch.

Missing and feared dead are Terrance Thomas and Germaine LaRose. One is said to be from Linden while the other is said to be a resident of Meadowbrook Gardens.

BIG Smith News Watch was told that the boat the men were in at the time, belongs to the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission.

Contacted this after, Commissioner of the GGMC Newell Dennison indicated that they have received reports of an incident but are awaiting the full details.

The police and a search party commended looking for the two missing persons early this morning and continued until late this afternoon. They are expected to resume their search at first light on Friday morning.
