A 26-year-old man is currently on trial before Demerara High Court Judge Jo Ann Barlow and a 12-member jury for murder. Donell Trapp, otherwise known as ‘Shortman’ was arraigned on Wednesday morning.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that between March 12 and 14, 2016, in Demerara, he murdered 60-year-old remigrant agriculturist, Anthony Breedy, during a robbery.

The murder accused is being represented by Attorneys-at-Law Dexter Smartt and Jevon Coxx while Senior State Counsel Lisa Cave and State Counsel Latifah Elliott are appearing on behalf of the prosecution.

Breedy was found dead at around 11:00h on March 14, 2016, at the bottom flat of his Hill Foot, Soesdyke-Linden Highway home. The pensioner’s hands and feet were bound, and his head was bashed in. Also, a piece of wood suspected to be the murder weapon was found next to him.

A post mortem examination performed on his remains revealed that he died as a result of asphyxia due to manual strangulation compounded. This was compounded by multiple blunt trauma to the head.
