New PNCR Leader Aubrey Norton plans to return his party to the grassroots. He made this statement as he set his agenda as the newly elected PNCR Leader on Monday.

Norton was officially declared PNCR leader by Chief Elections Officer Vincent Alexander at the Party’s Headquarters in Sophia. Addressing those in the room and those who joined virtually, Norton announced that he is inclined to name Former Party Chairman Volda Lawerence, and competitor Dr Richard Van West Charles as advisors.

“The elections is over and we must move forward,” a tearful Norton declared, “we will work together.”

Norton plans to advocate for a New voters list, challenge the Natural Resources Fund bill and challenge the proposed electoral boundaries as well as the appointment of Vishnu Persaud at the Chief Elections Officer.

Norton accepts the report on the party elections from outgoing Chairman Lawrence

“People must be appointed based on merit,” Norton said as he alleged that Persaud was appointed following collusion between GECOM Chairman Claudette Singh and Government nominated Commissioners.

Asked whether he plans to challenge Persaud, appointed via court, Norton said, he would not rule this out.

Meanwhile, Norton called on his party members and those elected to the Central Executive Committee to “work on the ground,” as he said, he plans to be more accessible.

14 persons have been elected for that Committee. These are Amanza Walton, Annette Fergson, Christoper Jones, Coretta McDonald, Dawn Hastings, Edward Collins, Ganesh Mahipaul, Gary Best, Geeta Chandon, Hazel Pile- Williams, Jeramin Figueria, Kirk Fraser, Reeza Roopnarine, Samuel Sandy and Troy Garrway. Two persons are tied for the 15 positions to which Vincent Alexander said the party will have to decided on a mechanism on the way forward.

Alexander also suggested the party holds by-elections to choose between two persons who have tied for the 2nd Vice Chairmanship. Christopher Jones and Vineroy Jordan are tied for that post.

The Party’s General Secretary is still to be named. But Norton said, he has someone in mind.
