Cinemas get greenlight to reopen at 40% capacity for vaccinated persons

The Government of Guyana has given the greenlight for theaters to reopen in the month of August but “only at forty percent capacity of the building or seating area.”

In addition, the operator of the cinema is tasked with ensuring that only vaccinated persons are at their place of business and are in possession of a valid identification document along with their vaccination cards. The official Gazette of COVID-19 Emergency measures noted that the card must be available to show to any operator or person authorized by the Minister of Health.

The order outlined that ‘Vaccinated’ means receiving at least one dose of the AstraZeneca, Sputnik V, Sinopharm, Sinovac, Pfizer, Moderna and the Johnson and Johnson jabs.

However, it clarifies that the requirement for vaccination does not apply to a child.

Face masks are also mandated covering persons’ nose, mouth and chins. As such, no concession stands are allowed at the cinemas.

The new COVID-19 measures are valid from August 1 to August 31.

There are currently 848 persons in isolation with COVID-19. Of that sum, there are 15 persons in the ICU. So far, Guyana has confirmed 22,372 positive cases since March 2020.

The country’s health officials are offering vaccines to everyone above the age of 18 years old.
