A 25-year-old security guard who admitted to having one ammunition in his possession was on Friday sentenced to one year behind bars. Ansel Lyken, a father of two, appeared before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.

Lyken pleaded guilty with explanation to the charge which stated that on June 28, 2021, at Fourth Street Alberttown, Georgetown, he had in his possession one live .32 ammunition without being the holder of a firearm licence enforced at the time.

The young man in his explanation to the court stated that he is a security guard and that he found the ammunition at his place of employment.

However, facts presented by the court prosecutor revealed that the defendant had an issue with his girlfriend who went to the Police and reported him for carrying the unlicensed bullet.

Subsequently, Lyken was asked to report to the Alberttown Police Station. While at the station it was observed acting suspiciously, and as such Police ranks carried out a search on him. The bullet was discovered in a bag he was carrying.

He was told of the offence committed, arrested, and charged.
