Slow processes for housing applications along with water woes were among the issues Region Six residents raised with Minister within the Ministry of Housing and Water Susan Rodrigues. The Minister was at the time visiting several communities in the ancient county.

Accompanied by a team of high ranking housing and water officials, the Minister met with residents of Fort Ordinance, Chesney New Housing Scheme, Babu John, and Anchorville.

The residents of all four of the villages took the opportunity to air their concerns about the tedious and lengthy process of the allocation of house lots. One particular resident highlighted that he had been waiting since 2000 to be given a house lot.

The residents complained about a lack of understanding of the process to receive the house lots that have been distributed.

Meanwhile, residents particularly from the Chesney New Housing Scheme lamented the poor service they said they were receiving from the Guyana Water Incorporated.

“Minista, di water ah wuk like fairy light, he on and off,” one resident bemoaned.

The Minister also entertained concerns about other issues that the citizens were facing, such as issues concerning the Flood Relief Grant.

Minister Rodrigues, in her brief address to the residents of Fort Ordinance and Chesney, committed to donating ten (10) street lights to the two (2) communities. This is expected to assist with the safety concerns that were also raised by the residents.

The Housing Officials on site assisted the residents with their house application concerns.

The Minister also assured those present that all the problems raised at the outreach programs will be addressed before the end of the year and if not, will be considered for inclusion in the Ministry’s 2022 budget.
