The 45-year-old labourer who is accused of fatally stabbing a young father of two during an eviction row has been charged with murder.

The man, Rawle Lamaison of Durban Back Lands Squatting Area Georgetown, appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan on Thursday at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.

He was not required to plead to the indictable charge which stated that on June 12, 2021, at Middleton Street Campbellville, Georgetown he murdered Dwayne Daniel Taitt.

He was remanded to prison until August 12, 2021.

Facts presented by the court prosecutor stated Taitt, a 24-year-old Enforcement Officer at Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) was renting an apartment at Lot 2 Middleton Street, Campbellville which is owned by Lamaison’s mother Jacklyn Lamaison.

Taitt shared the apartment with his reputed wife and two-year-old daughter Zara Taitt.

The court heard, that on July 11, last at about 17:30hrs, the landlord told Taitt and his reputed wife in the presence of Lamaison that they have until July 14 to remove from her premises.

However, on the following day, the family was at home sleeping, when they were awakened by  Lamaison banging on their apartment door with a piece of wood while shouting at them to move out.

As a result, Taitt opened the door and went out to Lamaison who was armed with a knife. Lamaison reportedly attacked Taitt with the deadly weapon. Taitt ran out on a street opposite the said apartment, where his landlady’s son pursued him and dealt him a stab to the chest.

The injured man fell to the ground while Lamaison fled the scene with the murder weapon. Taitt was then picked up by his reputed wife and a security guard and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital.

Lamaison was later arrested and charged.
