First Lady Mrs. Arya Ali has assured a number of students in Black Bush Polder, Berbice that she will work towards providing them computers and mobile devices to continue their virtual learning. The students, particularly those writing the upcoming Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) and the National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) on Monday morning lined up to engage with the First Lady on a number of issues.

Mrs Ali visited the Region Six community as part of an outreach to promote the regional aspect of the Guyana Online Academy of Learning (GOAL) which was set up to provide 20,000 online scholarships to Guyanese.

GOAL Berbice attendance

During the engagement, students requested computers. These computers, according to the students, will aid in their academic development in the field of Electronic Document and Preparation (EDPM) which is a subject they are studying.

One single parent whose child is preparing for the NGSA has also requested a mobile device for her son to be able to adequately attend his virtual classes. The parent also lodged a complaint about the poor internet service provided in the Black Bush Polder community.

The First Lady made note of these genuine requests and assured students and parents that steps will be taken to provide these devices to aid in their academic endeavours.

In a brief comment given to this publication, the First Lady noted that the students’ names and contact information were obtained and they will be contacted as soon as those devices become available.
