Businessman's sentencing will reflect legal system's position on abused women

Thursday, March 23, 2023, could prove to be a breakthrough for every woman who has been abused and lived to tell the tale. It will be the day that Magistrate Rondell Weever will decide the fate of businessman Devanand Singh whose sentencing is set for that day.

Singh, a kitty businessman, was on Tuesday found guilty of assault causing actual bodily harm where he slapped, kicked, and stomped his 25-year-old daughter and threatened to shoot and kill her.

In an exclusive interview with BIG Smith News Watch back in 2022, his daughter detailed the abuse she and her siblings would suffer at the hands of her father.

During that interview, the young lady shared a video that showed the young lady being kicked, slapped, and stomped by her father. That video evoked a wave of condemnation from the public towards the business even as the police moved in and seized a number of firearms that Singh was licensed to carry.

The incident reportedly took place after the young lady asked her father for money which resulted in them getting into an argument. After the young lady was battered, she was locked in the family home and while the family went out, she sneaked out of the home, sought refuge, and then engaged the services of an Attorney at Law.

In a bid to clear his name, the businessman, his children, maid, and reputed wife, went on a live Facebook program where he said that he reacted the way he did because his daughter provoked him.

The other siblings then pledge their support to him saying he was ‘powerful with love’

It is left to be seen what the severity of Singh’s sentencing would be given the many instances of women losing their lives at the hands of men who are incapable of controlling their anger and frustration.
