With the changes brought about by the coronavirus, Guyana is ensuring that it is nit left lagging behind compared to other countries.

Guyana on Wednesday through the Ministry of Tourism Industry and Commerce, Guyana Tourism Authority in partnership with the Inter-American Development Bank, DAI Global and Wilderness Explorers launched the mobile applications.

The applications have been developed by a local guyanese based tech company and can work with little or no internet connection, specifically making it easy for those planning to tour Guyana’s outlying regions.

During a simple launch today at cara Lodge in Quamina Street, Georgetown it was noted that the applications also allows for proper screening of guests before they even show up at the intended tourists venues.

Speaking at the event, GTA’ Director Kamrul Baksh said the move is one that shows the seriousness of Guyana and the ministry to push its tourism products and services.

He stressed that much work has gone into the process speaks directly to the importance tourism is to both the government and his agency.

The applications saw training being provided to lodge owners, operators and staff as well as residents within the communities those lodges are located.

Dealing with a response to health crises or emergency, hospitality and a host of other services tailored to provide an appreciative experience to those visiting the respective areas were also covered in the training.

But it was in her feature address that Minister of Tourism Industry and Commerce Onedinge Walrond underscored the importance of the teamwork that brought the applications to reality.

Minister Walrond asked that persons understand the importance of this application launch as it is one of many initiatives being taken locally to ensure the survival of the local tourism sector during a pandemic.

She also called for an embracing of technology while calling on operators and communities to ensure the safety and security of tourists as the apps also makes provision for feedbacks and sentiments of the visitors and will effectively provide data of where visitors are visiting.
